Just going to get this out of the way and then never mention it again... what happened to Pirates? Now, do we need to adjust any of those settings on D&D:B, or are they already set the way you want (milestone leveling, fixed HP increases, etc)? Aside from that I think I need to see what other people are playing, suffering a little choice paralysis at the moment. The Emerald Spire is just a precursor to get us to the levels we need to start the actual pirate part of the campaign. Right boss?

What happened to pirates? Yes. Pirates are an option once we hit 5th level, that's why the Emerald Spire is conveniently located on the Razor Coast. But if you wanna keep plummeting down the depths, then that's fine too. The D&D Beyond settings are set to Milestone and fixed HP by default. Unfortunately, I can't change that. I think we will be using XP levelling and manual HP. Trinkets are good inspiration. I endorse this idea.

I put a cleric up on D&D:B, but I'm pretty lukewarm on it. I have a barbarian I like better, but it might be a really dumb idea for this game.
I really need to see what other people want to play.

There's nothing wrong with a pirate barbarian! Pirates are pretty well known for their short fuses right? You'll probably enjoy it more if you play something you like rather than something that's optimised for the campaign. At least you don't need to wear heavy armour so you wont sink XD My frog monk is semi-optimised but built with the intention that she'd be fun to play. Hopping around the battlefield, poking people with my poison spear and punching big scary guys in the face Also, I CAN BE A BACKPACK WHILE YOU RUN!!

Being a barbarian isn't the dumb part, it's the not being able to swim at all. I like the character, but it may be crossing the line into snowflake territory.

Are they allergic to water? (Tabaxi, I'm lookin at you!) Even characters without an innate swim speed can still swim, it just requires skill checks and a Barbarian should be able to handle the Athletics checks pretty easily tbh. Even so, I don't think it'll be too much of a handycap, especially if we don't get to the pirating until level 5, you might have a magical item by then that you can use or something. I think my handycap of having to be submerged for an hour a day will be a bigger problem while we do the dungeoneering part.

Not a Tabaxi, a homebrew desert lizardfolk race that specifically can't swim, giving up it's swim speed in exchange for a burrow through sand speed. Again, I really like the character, I even came up with something for the trinket, but this doesn't seem like the right campaign for it. That said I am starting to lean towards Tabaxi - the stray mangy cat look with an eyepatch and a bandanna seems too perfect an image, like I've already seen it in some sort of animated thing but can't remember where, and 'doesn't like water' is way more fun than 'will drown'. Also Moongoose 2.0, some kind of Goliath grappler build, is under consideration. As for your character, the dungeoneering part shouldn't bee too much of an issue, don't know that I've ever seen a dry dungeon. Just so long as water quality isn't an issue I need my options limited.

Ahhhh right! Now I understand! Does sound like a fun character, sandshark-esque but yeah, perhaps next time Can't go wrong with either Tabaxi Swashbuckler or Goliath Grappler, both excellent choices Yeah, people need to make more characters to help you narrow down! I've done my bit XD

Not sure if some people have even seen this forum yet. So we may just have to be patient.
I'm thinking I should probably recruit one more player. 6 is a good number. Not too many, but enough that we can still play if a couple of geezers are MIA.

Hot tip! The new Unearthed Arcana just came out today with a very thematic option for Warlocks. Sign a pact with The Lurker In The Deep, and you gain a lot of crazy underwater/tentacle powers. All hail The Kraken! Unearthed Arcana link

Argh. Lurker In The Deep is not up on D&D Beyond yet. I started homebrewing it, but quickly realised it is a very time consuming process.

UA's on the table? Mariner Fighting Style from Waterborne Adventures is AMAZING for anyone considering a Fighter.
