I do have a question, if I have the arcane focus as on orb, would I be able to use it held to he end of a staff with a mechanical claw?
And can I have a staff with a mechanical claw on the end? ;P

Merlyn (looks like this guy, but a Gnome)
Merlyn (not his real name) was an aspiring criminal mastermind who in his youth had assembled a gang of young thieves with the goal of perpetrating some of the most audacious heists the world had ever seen. His first true heist was a plan to steal an artifact from the Wizard's College. Sadly, he overestimated the ability, focus and loyalty of some of his cohorts and when the blundering idiots ruined the plan and got caught they immediately informed on him. Brought before the Archmage of the College he was asked to explain himself, and with nothing to lose he spelled out his plan in detail, an intricate arrangement of actions, events and ingenious devices of his own making, all based on meticulous research and intel, brought low by fools. Impressed with his obvious intellect, planning, and gnomish predisposition for tinkering and artificing, the Archmage offered him a position at the college as student and his personal apprentice. He gladly accepted, as it was an opportunity to learn he couldn't turn down, and much preferable to going to prison. Unfortunately it didn't last long. Merlyn discovered the Archmage was a secret member of the Technic League (they're bad guys, right?) and was given the choice of join or die. He instead chose to flee, changed his name, and has spent the last few weeks getting by hustling dragonchess.
Personality Traits I am NOT arrogant, I just take the time to learn and understand things when others don't - also smarter and better looking. IdealsAll should strive to be the best they can. Those that try to keep others down only reveal how pathetically limited they are. BondsThose with skill and talent are like finely crafted cogs, essential for the mechanisms of my plans to operate, but ultimately replaceable. FlawsDespite my best efforts, I seem to surround myself with idiots. I suppose it is the burden of those with the gift of intellect, to share that gift. Ooooo he sounds fun! I also like your idea for the staff-claw-orb thing

Could someone familiar with Wizards look at my spell list and tell me if there is something obviously wrong with it (must have spells I've missed, useless spells I've taken) please? Thank you.

You could take Mage Hand instead of control flame, but it's up to you, both thematically fit with your character if you're focusing on illusions, I just find Mage Hand more useful. I haven't used Grease but I can see the applications for it. Haven't used Silent Image either but I know it's super useful, especially if you're planning on going with the Illusionist school Sleep is OP, especially against multiple low HP targets.

Grease is the best spell ever written. It makes everything greasy. The possibilities are infinite. EDIT: Just don't cast it on any freshly mopped floors, or Sanina might kill you.

Less focusing on illusions and more what's useful for heists, which the benefits of the school are, especially the free better version of a cantrip I was going to take anyway. The choice between mage hand and control flame came down to control flame comboing with flame bolt and mage hand making the Tinkerer's Staff of Reaching completely redundant, and I couldn't have that.
Hmmm... I think I'll have to research a variant of Grease called Soap - same slipperiness, but cleans the surface when it wears off.

Control Flame and Flame Bolt combo? They can't be cast at the same time (eg changing the colour of a fire bolt or something) Or do you just mean having the ability to both control fire and fling it feels more consitent? Tinkering Staff of reaching sounds funky, how far can it reach? Pretty handy if it negates the need for Mage Hand! Free extra Cantrip for you! haha Another cantrip worth picking up down the line would be Mending, never know when you might need to fix a thing

Just that Flame Bolt can very specifically light fires, and being able to control said fires is very useful both to avoid accidentally burning something down, or to intentionally facilitate burning something down. It can reach the length of the staff, it has a mechanical claw on the end.

If you have something in mind when choosing your spells and are aware of their mechanics, then your choices will be fine. Ahhh and the 30ft Mage Hand would make the ability to grab things with the staff pointless, I see what you're getting at. Though, you might have the potential to be a bit more subtle when you're grabbing things with the claw hand, a giant magical hand is hard to disguise haha

I added theive's tools and 50gp, but don't know how to add scrolls properly. Tried adding 3rd lvl Spell Scrolls and renaming 1 to Fly, but it kept renaming both.
