Can you tell it's a slow day for me at work? Here's a thread for party loot and division of XP, as well as key plot updates as needed.
XP Situation Is Good!
At the start of last session, we managed to haul a bunch of corpses back up into Torch, giving us all enough XP to jump to level 2. Considering we have some new characters, as well as some party members who contributed to the effort downstairs but haven't been in all sessions, the executive decision is: everyone's on Level 2 now!
This means that our current XP will be 2,000, while next level's XP is at 5,000. Rufus, Makhel and Talus might have gotten some additional XP from last week's session, too, but that's still to be determined.
Party Loot Situation Is Quite Bad.
During last week's session we were operating under the assumption that Talus was carrying the party loot. Unfortunately, as events unfolded, Talus killed an innocent old man and ran off into the streets of Torch, leaving Rufus and Makhel to see how things unfold at the casino. This means that the now-vanished Talus is carrying all the party loot, as well as Rufus and Makhel's main weapons. Fortunately, some things escaped his insane clutches: a dagger that belongs to the Technic League, which was left with Rufus' new "friend" Amin.
WHAT THE FUCK IS EVEN GOING ON ANYMORE?
Okay, so there's a few weird things going on in Torch and after a few sessions, we're all pretty spread out. I'll try and quickly summarize the key plot points
Torch's extinguished flame
The party went underground, the latest in a large number of adventurer groups to try and reignite Torch's flame. Most notably, Khonnir Baine, local legend of Torch, has gone missing. During the expedition we found bodies of some of the previous adventurers, including an orc corpse as well as a number of halfling bodies. These were brought back up top for people to identify and pay their respects. Just outside a large, metal underground dome, we met a group of sad creatures led by Sef. Their number has been chopped down, and we got their trust and promise of help by slaying a group of dimension-door-using gremlins that had set up nearby. At this point, everbody headed back up to town to compose ourselves. Rufus split from the party briefly, and had his own strange journey, which I'll address shortly. At this point, however, we were joined by a strange robot companion, a rude elf, and a half-orc warrior.
We headed back down to the dome, and managed to find our way inside. Inside it was pitch-black, so we followed Makhel and EAD13 thanks to their darkvision; Mithra used her icon to cast light, and we trudged on through it. Talus slew a beast, we battled some creatures and spent a night in a large underground sandy canyon, and - EAD13 bit the dust after being exposed to a severe amount of electricity and asking us not to touch it. Shortly after this, in some sort of control room, we turned all the lights back on.
After this, the group trekked back to the surface, bringing the bodies of other adventurers (including a human we had found within the dome!) we had found with us. We lodged at The Foundry, where Mithra and Ana took some leave and Makhel and Talus met up with Rufus once again.
The murder of Norris
Rufus, after coming back upstairs, had been investigating the murder of a boy named Norris. I'm missing some crucial details here, so I'll leave Villa and Alex to fill in the blanks:
After suspecting a swarthy NPC named Amin of committing the murder, they became allies, and set a trap to try and lure Norris' killer out; this didn't have solid results, but did manage to lure out a member of the local Ropefist Gang (so called because their weapon of choice is their fists, wrapped in rope.) Rufus, Makhel and Talus headed first to Norris' lodgings, to explore his room. The housemaster was a bit stand-offish, but in his defence he looked unwell, and it was very early in the morning.
We discovered eight silver discs (the Torch equivalent of platinum pieces, worth 10gp each!) in Norris' footlocker and went to the Silver Disc Hall, a casino. Not to gamble the money - it was a hot lead! The Ropefist Gang had some influence within the hall, providing security and roaming the floors. After having a drink and participating in a few challenges - Rufus not doing too badly in a knife-throwing competition - Makhel proposed a plan. "We'll create a distraction," he said, gesturing to Talus, "while Rufus sneaks inside and finds out information." Talus replied, "what sort of distraction?" Makhel immediately threw a colossal punch into his face, sending Talus sprawling on the floor and immediately attracting the attention of basically everybody in the room.
Talus and Makhel tussled while Rufus explored the back rooms of the casino. Unfortunately, the half-orc's strength was fantastic and his barrage of fury sent Talus' health rocketing way down. He could barely stand up. Casino security (the Ropefist Gang) arrived and Makhel screamed "he owes me money!" before security clobbered him unconscious.
Talus, weakened from the fight, walked promptly to the casino doorman to retrieve his greatsword - which he then used to immediately cleave the old, thin doorman in half. Talus grabbed the bag of holding, and ran into the streets. Rufus returned to a truly confused casino room where Makhel lay unconcious on the floor. Talus is gone with the equipment.
